For years, the Fitness Nerd has espoused the benefits of eating high-fiber. It slows absorption of carbs and it helps you poop.
But when you pick up your May copy of the Journal of Nutrition, you're gonna find a whole new reason to pour yourself a bowl of Colon Blow. In a study out of the University of Nottingham, several healthy yet sedentary women were split into two groups. One group was feed a high-fiber, low-glycemic breakfast, the other a low-fiber-high-glycemic breakfast.
Then they all did a bit of exercise and, believe it or not, the healthy eaters had a higher hourly fat oxidation rate!
The sheriff of the town in which the study was based could not be reached for comment, in that he was combing local Sherwood Forest for a band of pesky marauders.
