Let's hear it for sex!

CNN ran a story today about a new article in the Journal of Sexual Medicine outlining the many health benefits of frequent sex.

The editor-in-chief of that journal, Dr. Irwin Goldstein, says that when you read about the physical benefits of sex, "you can't help but say, 'Holy God! Sexual activity is a very important thing to do. Human beings were really meant to do this.' " Goldstein is also the director of sexual medicine at Alvarado Hospital in San Diego, California.

Grrrrr.

As a single person not currently in a relationship, my response is, "Holy God Yourself! Thanks for that squirt of lemon juice on my open wound." Something tells me that picking up willing women nightly at Pat's II or The Bull Pen -- the two singles joints within walking distance of my bed -- would probably lead to more health problems than benefits.

Furthermore, if you are in a relationship and you feel compelled to present your honey with this list in hopes that it'll dial things up in the bedroom, well, God bless you for trying, but it's probably not going to work. You're more likely to get a roll of the eyes instead of a roll in the hay.

All this said, I intend to purchase a copy of this issue of Journal of Sexual Medicine and place it strategically on my coffee table, between the lava lamp and my Peruvian fertility Goddess statue. It'll be the perfect accent to my lime green leisure suit.

  1. Your place sounds kickin'.

I don't understand though; sex is great, so why would someone likely get an eye roll from their significant other if they suggested more of it?

  2. haha - sounds like someone needs to ... I won't use the term. But yes again it feels right so it's probably good for you and your health. Of course we are more complicated than just the animal physical creatures. There's attachment, guilt and regret to remind us not to just go out and have sex constantly in a consequence free environment. STupid brain and intellect getting in the way - doh! haha ;)
